Serono.

Former Merck Serono site located in Geneva, Switzerland has been sold to a consortium behind Campus Biotech.

The Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, the University of Geneva, Hansjörg Wyss, the Wyss Foundation and the Bertarelli family are the partners that teamed up to implement the vision behind Campus Biotech. By creating the campus, the consortium is hoping to give the biotech sector in the Geneva region a boost.

Wyss Foundation will contribute CHF 100 million for creation of a Wyss Institute, while Bertarelli Foundation will contribute its existing EPFL chairs and donate two additional chairs to the Wyss Institute.

Wyss made a fortune from the USD 21 billion sale of Synthes to J&J in 2011, while Bertarelli's family cashed in on the sale of Serono to Merck KGaA in 2006.

For more information about the project, see the press release.
