Stream is a new feature now available at lifescience.net that allows you to filter content other scientists share which matters to you most.
Recently, at scimplified.com we launched a feature that enables the reader to follow any author, topic or a place and in doing so create a personal “stream” of news from science, health and technology, which contains articles matching the reader's interests. Now this feature is available at lifescience.net as well.
If you visit your profile, you can now set up your Stream by defining:
- scientific disciplines that are relevant to your work,
- scientists you wish to follow,
- nodes you wish to follow (by node we mean any academic research institution, company, research group and even entire cities and countries).
Content matching your interests will automatically appear in your Stream as other scientists share it.
Currently, there are four types of content you can choose to follow: research protocols, news articles, events and jobs. Other types of content may be added in the future.
So why would you be using the Stream? For instance, you can now follow the city you work in to get information about seminars taking place there. Or you can follow several countries you'd like to work in so you don't miss job opportunities people post. There are several options you can tweak to customize your Stream to see the information that is most relevant to you and your research.
Sometimes, you might get content in your stream which is not necessarily relevant to you. This is promoted content, a paid service we introduced to help us fund this project.
Job posting and recruiting system
In addition to the Stream, we also launched an improved version of the LSN recruiting system. The aim of the recruiting system is to make your hiring process as easy and efficient as possible. We built it to give recruiters and grant officers who still receive applications per email an easy to use online alternative, which reduces the need to use email communication as much as possible.
The system now features automated sending of customizable decision messages to the applicants. Once you edit the existing message, candidates can be informed of the outcome by a single button click, making the entire evaluation process quick and easy to use.
Anyone who wishes to use the job posting in combination with the recruiting system, can do so free of charge.
Science policy
Apart from further improving the Stream, LSN recruiting system and other features of the platform, in the months to come we will also try to communicate science policy suggestions to you, with the goal to debate the ideas publicly.
This is in line with the general aim of our organisation to bring transparency, openness and fairness into science and with the goal to make the scientific process more efficient.
So if you haven't done it already, sign up here and follow Life Science Network gGmbH, and we'll make sure you don't miss any of those articles.
