Sardinia Biomed Cluster – A Biomed Kind of Island

Innovation-oriented, state of the art biomed researches, spirit of entrepreneurship and excellent facilities.

Sardinia Biomed Cluster, the Sardinian district committed to Biomedical researches and development of technologies for the health, is one of the five biotech clusters officially recognised by the Italian Government and the biggest in Southern Italy for number of enterprises biotech.

Even if considered a sector relatively new, the biomed sector in Sardinia developed quickly, favoured by the technological innovation that the Italian island experienced in the ’80s and the ’90s, thanks to the ICT.

The studies on genes’ isolation, the results given in the pharmacological research, together with investments made by the local government, made the Sardinia a center of excellence on bio-informatics technologies applied to personalised medicine.

Today the cluster counts on 130 participants between enterprises, research centers and university. There are 13 labs shared between all, 5 CNR (national centers of research) and the first, public society in Italy committed to the development of new diagnotical and therapeutical agents.

The cluster is located in Polaris, the scientifical and technologal park, in its two campus in Pula (CA) e Tramariglio (SS). Polaris makes available to the enterprises Bioincubator, one of the greatest calculation cluster available in Italy, a library focused on patents and high skilled human resources.

The know-how of the Sardinia Biomed Cluster expresses itself in a long tradion of advanced research on: neurodegenerative diseases, neurological, autoimmune disorders and rare diseases, oncolgy, metabolic disorders, high infective diseases. These researches highlight the Sardinia Biomed Cluster on the International level.                               

The project for the promotion and development of the cluster, started in 2011, reached its highest point at the BioEurope expo 2013 in Wien. Today, the Sardinia Biomed Cluster is a well-established reality, and it is able to link the different skills of the participants and, furthermore, to catch the attention of the main actors in the biomed sector on a International level.
