Events module of Life Science Network is now upgraded to feature automated import of events from institutional calendars. This makes it easier to stay up to date with scientific events in the city where you work.
Events was one of the first Life Science Network modules we developed. From the very beginning of the project, our goal was to connect and bring scientists together through sharing of information about scientific events. Initially, members of our network mostly shared information about scientific conferences they were organizing. Now, we are also featuring a great number of science seminars and providing the option for anyone to share abstracts of their poster or oral presentations at scientific meetings.
There are two ways information about seminars can be shared. They can be uploaded manually, or we can import the entire calendar of seminars from a given institution at once and keep our database synchronized with the external calendars. One example is the city of Heidelberg, where seminars from several institutions are now automatically imported and shown on our platform. Everyone that follows Heidelberg, or the individual institutions, now gets notified when new events are announced.
While we encourage all our members to share information about the seminars they give, organize or attend, we believe the automated approach is a better way of sharing this information. We therefore encourage all institutions which are not yet represented on this platform to contact us and we will feature their seminars as well. We hope this way the number of seminars will grow and this feature will be useful to all our members. Just don't forget to set up your Stream and follow cities or institutions you are interested in.
Abstracts
Abstracts are another module we would like to make more popular. Like with the science seminars, if you would like to share the abstract of your poster or oral presentation at a scientific event, you can now do so on this platform. Files can be attached and the abstracts will be indexed for search, making it easier for others to discover you and your work.
Note that prior to uploading the abstract, the scientific event needs to be defined first.
Automated import of abstracts is now possible as well. We encourage all organizers of scientific meetings to contact us about this feature.
Other updates
Aside from the events-related features, we recently modified the Stream page as well. It now features the ability to share short updates, consisting only of text, or text and a file, web link or image, in a quick and easy way. So if there is something you'd like to share with your followers, you can now use the Updates feature.
In addition to the new features, performance and possibly design updates are under way. In case you think there is something missing on this platform, a feature you'd like to have, let us know.
We always appreciate your feedback. Let us know what you think about these updates by using the comment box below. If you prefer, you can also send us a message with your suggestions by email.
