Summer School of Science is an international summer workshop for high school students interested in science and technology, established in 2001. It is organized by Society for Out-of-Frame Education in Pozega (Croatia). The program offers a hands-on experience in a diverse range of research projects and lectures by prominent scientists.
Summer School of Science is an international, 8 to 10-day long summer workshop where high school students come to share their enthusiasm for discovery and invention. Students from all over the world participate each year in this adventure that combines passionate work and learning with opportunities to make life-long friendships.
Students work in small groups of three or four on a single scientific project, guided by a mentor: usually an undergraduate or a graduate student or a postdoctoral research scientist. With its accent on stating hypothesis, data collection, analysis and interpretation of results, Summer School of Science provides students with an introduction to scientific method. Projects cover different areas of natural sciences and technology, combining theoretical and experimental approaches to solve problems.
Project work is accompanied by evening lectures given by established scientists, as well as workshops that aim to put science in a wider social context. During all school activities, students have an opportunity to learn about the academic and other career pathways and form valuable ties with their colleagues, mentors and other young scientists.
The School is held in Pozega, a town in Croatian eastern region of Slavonia.
Summer School of Science is organized in two camps: camp S3 (for grades 9 and 10) and S3++ (for grades 11 and 12). The dates are:
Camp S3: July 24th - August 1st 2014
Camp S3++: July 12th - July 22nd 2014
