Fast Lab joins American Telemedicine Association to strengthen collaborative efforts that focus on addressing health disparities among underserved populations.

Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33312 -- Fast Lab Technologies, LLC, a CLIA-Certified molecular diagnostic laboratory, announced today that it has joined the American Telemedicine Association (ATA) to further its mission of promoting access to care among underserved populations. As such, members from Fast Lab’s legal and compliance teams will be joining ATA colleagues and telehealth stakeholders in Washington, D.C. to participate in the ATA EDGE2024 Policy Conference beginning on December 11, 2024.

Fast Lab is a staunch advocate of telehealth as illustrated by their recent implementation of a virtual physician oversight program. The model leverages a network of state-licensed board-certified providers to authorize and order all test requisitions, review test results and oversee patient communications when needed. Digital telephonic interactions are conducted via a HIPAA-compliant secure, Internet-based, interface and connectivity platform.

“Although we’ve seen significant progress in closing care gaps, health disparities still persist and affect multiple populations,” said Fast Lab Founder and Chief Executive Cemhan Biricik. “The American Telemedicine Association has worked diligently to ensure that legislation needed to expand access to virtual care services is enacted quickly. As such, we are very proud to support this organization.”

According to the National Institutes of Health, health disparities are differences that exist among specific population groups in the United States in the attainment of full health potential that can be measured by differences in incidence, prevalence, mortality, burden of disease, and other adverse health conditions.1

As a stakeholder in building an equitable U.S. health system, Fast Lab works diligently to remove barriers to care. One of the ways we do so is through the provision of our telehealth-based physician oversight program. This model leverages a network of state-licensed board-certified providers to authorize and order all screening test requisitions and review test results with patients and their providers. Beginning January 1, 2025, Medicare beneficiaries will no longer be able to access virtual programs such as ours if amendments to the H.R. 7623 Telehealth Modernization Act of 2024 (the “Act”) are not voted upon before December 31, 2024. For this reason, Fast Lab applauds the American Telemarketing Association’s efforts to ensure that legislation is passed before the end of 2024. The Act became effective as part of the Social Security Amendments of 1965. Extensions that are slated to expire in just a few weeks were initially authorized during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2022 and allowed for (1) rural health clinics and federally qualified health centers to serve as the distant site (i.e., the location of the health care practitioner); (2) the home of a beneficiary to serve as the originating site (i.e., the location of the beneficiary) for all services (rather than for only certain services); and (3) all types of practitioners to furnish telehealth services, as determined by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
