The increase in human life expectancy in most parts of the world has not generally been accompanied by a corresponding boost in health for older people. About 80% of people in the USA aged 65 years or older have two or more chronic diseases. In his new book Super Agers: An Evidence-Based Approach to Longevity, cardiologist Eric Topol brings the experience of a clinician and his impressively broad grasp of the science of ageing to consider innovative treatments, detection, and preventive strategies for type 2 diabetes, heart disease, cancer, neurodegeneration, and the ravages of advancing age more generally.
